Feng Shui is the ancient art of attracting auspicious energy into every aspect of our lives. This energy, or Chi, is found in our homes and our gardens, it is seen over water and land, in fact Chi is everywhere around us.
Feng Shui, literally meaning wind and water, is concerned with capturing the earth’s energy, or Chi, also known as Dragon's Cosmic Breath and this is the force that moves within our environment. By arranging our space according to these ebbs and flows we can attract fortune, while reducing the risks of misfortune. This ancient art was once only known by a select few in the Chinese Royal House but is no longer a secret, with many western families and businesses benefiting from the knowledge.
The ancient Chinese believed that all things on earth fall within one of the five element categories of fire, earth, metal, water and wood. It is therefore natural to believe that how and where these items are placed within a building will have an influence on the health and prosperity of the people within that environment. We can also see from this information that if the Feng Shui energy in a building is not good it can be altered by the rearrangement of the area or by relocating to a better place.
The Feng Shui of a building and the health and wellbeing of the people within that structure is affected by many external, internal and time influences.
- Exterior Feng Shui, called Landscape School, deals with the area surrounding the building, and looks at the effects of mountains, hills, rivers, roads and other objects that can influence our lives. This, by its very nature, is usually hard to control.
- Interior Feng Shui, sometimes known as basic Pa Kua or Eight Aspirations Feng Shui, looks at the layout of the rooms and how the energy flows through the space. The selection of colours, textures and objects also influence the creation and movement of this ‘chi’. Interior Feng Shui is easier to control, as we are able to move furniture and introduce colours correctly. Traditional ‘cures’ can be used to remedy problems.
- The direction or orientation of a home is known as Nine Palaces or Trigram Feng Shui and is very powerful when used correctly. The date of birth of the occupant is used to calculate the Eight Mansions charts of a building and to show areas that are lucky and unlucky within a home. It requires the use of a compass to ascertain the orientation of doors and furniture position within an area. This is a little more complex.
- Time dimension Feng Shui is also known as Flying Stars Formula. This formula is used to calculate the areas of good and bad luck within a house or business on a twenty year, yearly or monthly basis. Flying stars can often predict a time of misfortune making it easier to prevent, as well as predicting times of abundance. The consultant will usually use a Lo Pan, a very accurate compass, to correctly calculate the important directions of a building. This formula of Feng Shui is powerful and when used in conjunction with Eight Mansion Feng Shui the results are incredible. The positions of many things including water, desks and cash registers can be calculated using these formulas.
- The birth time is incorporated into a birth date chart and the information creates a Paht Chee chart, also known as Eight Pillars of Destiny. The information calculated from these charts allows the practitioner to balance a client’s personal chart of elements and to arrange their environment to better suit them. This is also known as Chinese Astrology.
